Airtables API rate limit of 5 requests/second?

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

Assuming this: The app is literally just built off of 2 requests. 1 is a GET List to list out all of the tiles on page and the other is a GET Detail, to open a modal and go in further detail of a tile.

Does this API rate limit of 5 requests mean if 10 people using the app press on the exact same tile at the same instance that it will slow down, or possibly crash?

Or is this rate limit meaning how many requests an app page from a single user can make per second?

Hi guys,

Yes, if more than 5 users trigger a request within that second, the users after the 5th request will get an error message.

Airtable's documentation states that this limit can't be increased for now, so in case you have a big amount of simultaneous users in the app, you might want to look at other backend options.

5 requests per second should be sufficient in case you're working with a prototype or an app with a low amount of users, though.

Cheers!
