Audio stops playing when screen is off/ times out

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

Hi there! I have recently published my sleep & music app with Apple (users listen to music as they’re falling asleep).

When testing with Bravo Vision, users were able to press ‘play’ on any given track and music would continue to play even when the screen would time-out or if the user pressed the side button on their phone to switch the screen off. In essence, music would always continue playing unless the user physically pressed the ‘pause’ button on the ‘play screen’.

Now that the app is published, this functionality is no longer there, making the app completely useless (unless the user keeps their screen on the whole time, which is unrealistic and defeats the purpose).

Does anyone have ideas as to what could be going wrong? (tags, phone settings or a bug?)

I’m desperate for some answers!

Hi @Kamila Smyk . We have an audio player in Voda (www.voda.co) that sounds similar. Are you using the [audio:background] tag so that the music doesn’t stop playing when the phone locks?

In our live apps (iOS and android), the player continues even when the phone is locked.

What happens in your live app? Does the audio start when the user presses play but then stops when they lock their phone?

One issue may be that you’re live app isn’t in sync with Bravo Vision. Have you made sure to push the changes from Bravo Vision live (i.e. “Publish” changes)?

Hi Kris! Yes, I’ve done both: got the [audio:background] tag, as well as pushed all changes to the live app. For some reason, the issue persists.

At the moment, as soon as the user locks their phone, the music stops playing.

It seems to me that the [audio:background] tag only continues to play music whilst a person is flicking through the app itself and plays in the background there?

Do you think it may be to do with where the music tracks are stored?
