Fed up of Apple restrictions

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

It's been 45 days now I first submitted my app to Apple.

It's still not live because of their guidelines. They won't publish it because :

"To resolve this issue, please revise your app to let users freely access your app’s features that are not account based."

Is this fckin serious ?
Then Bravo Studio is useless for this app as it is not possible to do that..

If you make a notes app then, you should let users enter the app UNTIL they want to make their first note ? How bullshit is that ?

I don't know how your Notes App is set up but I believe access is dependent on if your API call is authenticated or not, otherwise Bravo would access all your screens according to your prototyping as set up in Figma. Manipulate this from your backend.

Bastos August 5, 2022

No it was an example, it's not a notes app. It was to illustrate how dumb it is on their side.

app.monster August 5, 2022

Do you mean when a user opens the app they just see a login page? And that is what apple dislikes? Usually that shouldn't be a problem. I know many apps that do it like that, maybe with a second screen that has some info/advertising for the features inside the app once you log in.
We can only guess but usually they should be able to clarify which screens they mean when you ask them specifically.

Bastos August 5, 2022

In fact, they say that users should access my app without signing up, THEN, if they want to use features that require the user to signup, only at that moment they would be obliged to do it.

app.monster August 5, 2022

I agree with you. That makes no sense. There are tons of apps that require sign up. While I still don't know your app, one thing could be to just fake the home screen. Maybe that is already enough for apple.

Bastos August 5, 2022

yeah that’s what I wanted to ask to the community : ideas of workarounds.
I will try your idea, I send you the link of my app in private (some bugs remaining).

Basically they are saying you to add a "skip" button on login screen, right? It somewhat do not makes sense in Notes app specifically since if require the content to be protected, but if you have app other than this , you could add "skip" button and later on in your app could offer premium content via ONLY signup options (which could lead to payment or anything extra/memberships etc). This is better than forcing login and signup (although there are apps that does so)
Here have a look:- https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/132680
Even here they got it approved like this or so, but they cited some examples to Apple of how others app works like this.
You could as well do so.

Bastos August 5, 2022

well, how can you achieve restricting pages to signup users ?

Valter August 5, 2022

You can create a skip button and right after the app gets aproved and available on aple store you edit the figma file removing this button and update the bravo project. It may work!

Bastos August 5, 2022

That was my first guess but.. are they that dumb ? 😂

Valter August 5, 2022

im not using the aple store because its expencive, complicated and a pain in the ass. But on google play im always adding new features, changing others, deleting stuff and never and issues with the file online on google play. Guess with aple with be the same. You will not lose nothing to try!

Divyansh August 6, 2022

it could be done in many ways, one could be like, if users want to post anything, or share stuff or maybe download content or interact with more features like this, then make users to sign up, since it is necessary, why? because it adds security and maintains integrity of an application. how? by making sure if anyone does anything inappropriate or any misleading act then that we can take necessary action against that user, so we need login details for this. We are not collecting data for making profit as our first priority. This makes sense since you are collecting data only for maintaining the integrity, Apple wants this only, they dont want their iphone users or mac users to unnecessarily give their personal data.
Its simple, imagine yourself being as the head of a company who sells the privacy of their product users as their USP, what would you do, same as Apple right now,
so maybe try this method and explain to them like this, maybe they would understand.

Bastos August 6, 2022

You’re explaining the why. I said HOW technically would you do that in Bravo.

Divyansh August 6, 2022

you didnt mentioned HOW in BRAVO, so I thought in general, anyhow, in Bravo, try shifting login screen/popup when user click say "postIT" feature, you linked the "postIT" frame to login screen/popup and from clicking done where we enter email/password you then linked it to original "postIT" screen.
This way the "postIT" screen will only show up when user signup.
Not tried but I think this should work, let me know hows that working. 👍

Hello  !

Did you try using the Anonymous login with Firebase? (if your login is with Firebase)
Additionally, some users added some extra pages using post login or intro pages showing the app with an "explore the app" button (like a demo app section and trigger the login again on some pages) Check this Bravo iOS use case for example

Bastos August 11, 2022

looks dope.. I’ll first try to put the « continue without login » trick then remove it when the app is accepted.

Then if not working, I'll try a workaround like the one you shared.

Rajiv August 11, 2022

- I was going to suggest the anonymous login option and already did :) Much needed feature in Bravo but this feature currently works only with Firebase. We use Xano backend!

BTW, thanks for the heads on this apple registration issue - because anonymous login is not available for us on Bravo/Xano yet, we are forced to make our users signup/login upon download  - Yikes! We removed the Skip button but maybe we will need to get that back for now as a suggested workaround -

But our goal is for users to explore the app freely without login or signup but when "save" or create something we need to them to login in / signup (its like a Signin/signup wall).

Noted! We are always exploring more options to give as much flexibility as possible in Bravo!👍

Bastos August 12, 2022

The app passed the test with the "skip". I'm removing it 😛

Wrote something in this thread and want it removed? Request removal
