iso p12 certificate on a Windows 10 computer?

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

Hi folds I'm trying to follow your guide for publishing to apple. I've followed all of the steps for using openSSL to generate the CRS file on PC, then I've downloaded the certificates/identifiers/profiles from Apple (the identifier and the two provisioning profile files) as per the instructions.

The instruction then goes on to "Get the p12 certificate file" but only outlines what to do in Keychain...

How does this step work on a windows computer?

Any help would be much appreciated 🙂

This seems to be related to an issue with OpenSSL installed on windows incorrectly. Please try installing Git on windows and performing the following steps:

Open Git Bash (Not Git CMD) and navigate to a new folder.

Navigation example (replace username):

cd C:/Users/username/Downloads

New directory example (replace FOLDER-NAME):

mkdir FOLDER-NAME && cd $_

After that:

Create a Private Key and CSR

openssl req -nodes -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout private_key.key -out cer_sign_request.csr

Upload CSR to create a distribution Certificate and download it. It´s name shold be ios_distribution.cer . After that create an intermediate PEM Cert by performing:

openssl x509 -in ios_distribution.cer -inform DER -out intermediate.pem -outform PEM

After that it´s time to export .p12

openssl pkcs12 -export -inkey private_key.key -in intermediate.pem -out final.p12

This works for me.

legend mate thenkyou! already have gitbash... shall try this tomorrow. Getting too late here in Australia :)

Jonathan November 27, 2022

thanks mate worked well. In the end i had to add "winpty" also... otherwise bash just hung on that last command. So in order to export p12:

Diego Iglesias, GitBash works rather than Windows command Prompt. see Mergim Mavraj post above.

Now i just need to work out how to get the p12 into Apple Dev without a Mac lol... i was thinking of using "macincloud" not sure if you have used that service before? I can also borrow a friends so ill manage.

Thanks again for your help!

The p12 needs to go into Bravostudio and after baking the ipa file you can use Apples Transporter CLI App on Windows for bringing the ipa to AppStoreConnect. This is quite easy but if you need some help, feel free to ask.

Jonathan November 28, 2022

Hey mate... thanks for your offer to give me a little more assistance with this.... ive installed Transporter and tried to upload by executing the following in windows cmd,:

"iTMSTransporter -m upload -f /tmp -u <myappleid> -p <mypassword> -v eXtreme -t HTTP"

ive also tried:

"itms>iTMSTransporter -m upload -assetFile /tmp/eaglehawk-festivals-inc.-1.0.ipa -u  <myappleid>  -p  <mypassword>  -v eXtreme

I've tried to run Transporter in Bash but it doesn't seem to run.

I keep getting the following error in my log:

"ERROR: Sign in with the app-specific password you generated. If you forgot the app-specific password or need to create a new one, go to appleid.apple.com (-22938)"

I created a app-specific password and have run the commands again but still get the same error... perhaps there is more i need to do in terms of setup?

Any help greatly appreciated :) Jono

Did you enter your Email as AppleID? This is a Common mistake that people Copy the Team ID insteado of the email Address.

Jonathan November 29, 2022

yea mate i used the email address i use when logging into my apple account.

Jonathan November 29, 2022

well I'm getting somewhere now. I've made quite a few rookie mistakes... now I'm getting an error

"DEBUG: Ignoring file: C:\Program Files (x86)\itms\tmp\eaglehawk-festivals-inc1.ipa because it is NOT an iTMS package."

... reading the documentation it is also saying i need to add  -assetDescription AppStoreInfo.plist --- but further reading says i need xcode to create the .plist? obviously being on windows i don't have this...

I'm going to request another Bravo Build anyhow and try again in the morning... i will get there eventually lol

Jonathan December 2, 2022

in the end i purchased some macincloud time. I couldn't get transporter to work on windows. I kept getting  "DEBUG: Ignoring file: C:\Program Files (x86)\itms\tmp\eaglehawk-festivals-inc1.ipa because it is NOT an iTMS package."

Cheers J
