Figma placeholder text not displaying after API binding

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

I need to display only the placeholder text. This is for 2 cases: 1) the user has not initially selected any choice from the dropdown (i.e., upon calling the API and loading the screen for the first time), and 2) if the user selected a choice and wants to clear that choice from the menu.

As stated in the Dropdown tutorial, "Bind the Value property to API data, in case you want to do so. It will replace the placeholder text from Figma."
The property I am using is "None" as there is no way to completely clear the property fields in the Value section. Yet this doesn't display the placeholder text. What is the correct way to get the placeholder text to display?

Another side question: How to get the list of choices to display in a set order? I have sorted in Airtable alphabetically but this doesn't seem to fix the issue.

yes, I managed to use the sort parameter and that worked. Still facing the issue where the placeholder value is not displaying.

I don't have a chance to test that at the moment. But I would expect it to display the placeholder when there is no value too...
