Unique username (airtable)

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

Is there a way to not allow users to have the same username. Say in the sign up process the app asks the user to input a username, and if that name is already taken - by looking through airtable username column, the app tells the user "username is taken. try another." until the user inputs and submits a username that isnt taken.

I think you must create the APIs for login including if user has a unique username and email, if user has verified email address, if user is logged in.

is there a way to use a formula in the POST request?

Hi ,

You could use an Airtable filter to check if the username already exists, but you wouldn't be able to let the user know after submitting the form that they need to choose another username. You'd need some more backend functionality to do this, which I believe Airtable doesn't provide at the moment.

This is doable using a more powerful backend (Xano and Backendless for instance), or adding a connector tool such as Zapier or Integromat if you want to keep using Airtable.

I'll check out xano and backendless
thanks
