Xano vs. Backendless?

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

Does anyone here have an opinion on using Xano vs. Backendless?

Based on this video, plus going through the tutorials myself, Xano seems way more user friendly and polished. The tutorial to convert from AirTable was slick.

**Issue 1:
**Looking at the pricing Xano is just so much more expensive. Too expensive for an early-stage startup pre-customers:

  • Xano = $60/month
  • Backendless = $25/month

Issue 2:
Xano's lowest free tier is almost great... except they watermark all Image uploads.

Question****: Has anyone here tried using the free Xano. And then just hosting their files (image, video, audio) elsewhere. In an Airtable, Dropbox, or personal website?

Does that slow down the app having the extra step of files hosted not in the database?

I've used both, xano is better, not only is backendless a UI nightmare but xano offers better tools like graphql-like apis (addons), lambdas, etc.

Use google drive, not joking, for hosting whatever, its pretty fast.
You most probably will take a hit with performance but nothing to be noticeable really and if you do, just use addons.

and while I think that $60 is kind of high (v. low compute power) it's miles lower than hiring developers

Hi (alex & I are on the same team). Question, we've migrated over to Xano and now are trying to get to the same baseline as we were on airtable. However, on one of our app pages we use a horizontal carousel of images called "3_Reference_Images". The way it was migrated from airtable to xano was a list array of urls (images hosted on airtable). It's like a nested list (see second image).

When I data bind this element to my app page I get a 400 bad request error.

Have you had any success calling a list array of images that are hosted elsewhere? I'm not sure if my error is because the images are referenced as urls in Xano so Bravo doesn't identity this column as containing images. I don't get the option to bind to the "url" data point as expected.

Yeah does anyone else have this issue? basically we can get the List View pulling everything from Xano correctly. But then when we get to a details page, Xano isn't binding and we get a "400 bad request"

you can always check your API request history for that endpoint in Xano. This will tell you all the details of the request including the error message and where the error happened.

During the AirBnB tutorial that we partnered with Bravo on, we ran into some trouble binding because we did not have things set up in the API binding part in Bravo Studio - you can see this in the video and how we overcame it - https://youtu.be/SPKdCa57Lno?t=4128
