API changes after publishing

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

If I change an api if bravo does it affect the live app? Or would I need to upload a different build?

Depending on the change, it will affect the live app directly, sometimes even the design :) new builds are mostly for complex functionalities or bugs fix, second my experience.

okay that’s what I assumed but wanted to be sure prior to doing anything. Do you typically duplicate your project so your able to make sure stuff works first?

Karla July 3, 2021

I have never done big changes, but if I would need, I would create a new bravo app with the same file and just update that one. I believe that would work. could you help us here? What would be the best practice?

Karla July 3, 2021

what about the file? So, if we have it published, and we are trying new things, if we refresh the project they go live at the same moment. What’s the best practice for it?

hello! I agree with Karla here, in case you need to make any changes to the app without pushing them live, I'd create a new Bravo project and duplicate the data library collection, so the changes are not applied to the published app.

We're currently working on the Versioning feature, which will allow to handle this easier.

Coming back to this thread. Does the "publish changes" feature only work to publish changes to the App Store version?

We have alot of beta testers just using Bravo Vision. I'd love to be able to make changes in the bravo vision version Admins use, and then use the "publish changes" button to push the changes to all beta testers?

I.e.
Bravo vision admin version > publish > Bravo Vision Testers

on bravo vision, what you see, is the same that people that have access to it see!
Publish button just makes what you see on bravo vision also visible on the stores (Apple, Android).
If you don’t have a published app on the stores, it doesn’t make a difference.
On bravo vision you are always testing what you do LIVE, there is no way for you to see what you do and limit what other users see once they have access to the same view.
There is no role managements in Bravo Vision.
The best is for you to launch your beta test app and add users there directly, this way, you can manipulate what they have access to.

Thanks Karla!

By "launch your beta test" I assume you mean launch to TestFlight or the App store?

You're def right though. I'm just in waiting for my developer license 😬  and want to keep moving. Maybe I'll do what you mentioned above and do my admin testing on a separate build in Bravo vision.

Karla April 2, 2022

exactly! Sometimes the license take a while, you do good to invest your time already testing :) 🎉
