In-App Subscriptions (via website)

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

Has anyone built an app that can take subscriptions from your .com website and let users into the Bravo app?

Why:

  1. App Store Fees: I know apps like Headspace do this because you get to skip Apple’s 15 to 30% fee.

  2. Bravo Fees: Hate to say it (as a longtime user) but Bravo’s $200 a month for the ability to make a subscription app is too much. Given we’re pre-revenue its a gamble if I’ll even get any signups 🥹

@Alex Rothera hey Alex have not explored yet ..but we are staying with in-app purchases using bravo. Lot cleaner and simpler.

but two comments

  1. Apple takes only 10% for startups with < $1million annual revs. You need to sign up for free for their startup program id you have apple developer member - which I assume u have

  2. Bravo at $200 / month - is a really great value. We save so much on Engg and development cost - and hosting costs (GCP, Amazon)+ shipping iterations is pretty fast. Full time IOS dev in US is min $10k + per month alone !!!!

But love to hear why you think $200/month is high ? What is is missing ?

I don't use in-app purchases, and I'd recommend you think carefully about whether you need them. If you're not selling more than $200 a month, it might be an unnecessary cost for now. Instead, I created lite and paid versions with a single payment model. I'd also recommend considering selling outside the App Store and manually registering users or granting them access to features. This approach might be better for you when starting out.

@Rajiv Chopra Those are great tips thanks! Can you share a link to your app? I’d love to see.

Follow-up Question:
Are you using Xano or what backend? I’ve gotta upgrade there to paid soon too 😅

Good comments:

  1. Didn’t know so thanks!
  2. Good reminder on cost savings. I’m a solopreuneur bootstapping to i’m really tight on funds in general, so the comment was made from that perspective but also looking at competition (Flutter Flow, Draftbit) they’re $70 per month for all features.

@Alex Rothera hey alex sorry for the delay in responding.
1. you can download the Tripmix App here (its on IOS Iphone . Android version next month https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tripmix-create-travel-share/id1670946585

2. Backend is Xano - Scale plan

3. Regarding Draftbit etc… if you have a cookie cutter drag n drop app design then maybe those Work. But nothing matches Bravo if you have your designs in Figma - the iteration from design (figma) to bravo to testflight to publishing is magical.
P.S the Draftbit CEO in fact recommended using Bravo to us 2 years ago :)

4. We have some super exciting social commerce features coming in the app and will know how some of the payment options work.
