Newbie trying to Bravo

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

First, if this has been answered somewhere else, please direct me to that post ❤️

Hello,

I want to make an audio-guide app. In order to do so, I want to be able to play audio in my app.

I have followed a couple of guides on Youtube regarding the use of an API (airtable) to be able to play audio in my app but they are unfortunatly outdated (i.e they don’t speak about the Personalized Authentication Tokens that was introduced in Feb. 2024).

Because they dont adress the Personalized Authentication Tokens, I have run into an issue that I was hoping one of you guys could help me with.

I have two questions for the experts out there:
Is there any way to play an mp3 file in the app, with a Play and Pause button, without using an API ?

And if not: What am I doing wrong ? I have followed this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avnbIzBBQOI and done everything regarding connecting to the API.

Please, anyone, I could really use some help as I cannot see what I am doing wrong. 😅

Thanks in advance. 🙂

Hi @Mads Thorup Sørensen, Welcome to Bravo! 👋

I've got some resources that should help you out:

  1. Guide to Playing Audio in Bravo Studio: This guide will walk you through the steps to play audio files in your app.

  2. Updating Airtable’s API Key to Personal Access Token: This guide explains how to switch to the new Personalized Authentication Tokens introduced in February 2024.

To answer your specific questions:

  1. Playing an MP3 file without using an API:

    • Yes, it's possible to play an MP3 file in your app without using an API. You can achieve this by using the following tag in your Bravo app: [action:play:URL]. Replace URL with the direct link to your MP3 file. This tag will allow you to create a play button that plays the audio file when pressed.

    Example:

    [action:play:https://example.com/path/to/your/audiofile.mp3]

For a pause button, you can use a similar approach:

    [action:pause]

For more information, check this Figma sample: https://www.figma.com/community/file/982573216551611054

  2. Troubleshooting your API connection:

    • Since you've followed the guide on connecting to the API but are facing issues, it's likely due to the recent changes in Airtable's authentication method. Make sure you have updated your API key to the new Personalized Authentication Token as per the latest requirements. Double-check that you have followed all the steps correctly in the updated guide.

If you're still encountering issues after these steps, please share any error messages or logs you're seeing. This will help the community diagnose the problem more effectively.

Best of luck with your app development! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. 🙂

Thanks in advance!

@Marielle Ibias Thank you for the quick response - Though you have provided me with a lot of good ressources, unfortunatly I have already tried everything suggested above before I got your answer. 😅

When I asked wether it was possible to play an mp3 file in a Bravo Stuido app, I specifically meant without the use of an online source like a link or an API. Sorry for not specifying what I meant originally.

The reason why I am asking whether it is possible or not, is because my Audio guide app is meant to be played in a very old castle where the internet connection is very poor, so I want to make an app that is independent of an online connection.

But, if that is not a possibility, I can accept that and move on with trying the [action:play:URL] command in Bravo Studio. We could always make the connection at the castle better in the future.

Regarding that command - I tried the Bravo Sample that you linked to. It seems that if I replace the URL in the [action:play:URL] it will not play the new sound. I know the link has to end in .mp3, and the original link from the sample does that, but if I do this with a new link it does not work. As a matter of fact, I cant seem to find the audiotrack from the community sample on Bensound.com anymore. It seems to only exist in the example.

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong ? 😅 I cannot provide you with any error messages or that alike, since I dont get any.

Hi @Mads Thorup Sørensen, Unfortunately this feature requires a URL ending with .mp3 and network connection to make it work.
