Android form helper text overrides input field value

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

hi, thanks for helping 🫶

the form input for field “Share Text” has a placeholder value defined in figma as “input share text here” and saves to field “share_text”

on iOS, when you tap into the “Share Text” field it goes blank and the keyboard appears, as expected. then the user can enter their text from a blank slate.

however on Android, when you tap the “Share Text” field it has “input share text here” placeholder text already input as the input field text. this then requires the user to delete it every time they use the form, which is very frequent and inconvenient for the user.

how do i ensure that the placeholder text is always deleted when you tap into editing a field? again, this works on iOS but not on Android

thank you!!

Hello  Could you share more information?

  • You app ID or Bravo App project URL (copy/paste from the App edition screen)
  • Steps to reproduce (how to get to the page you mention)
  • Video showing the behaviours

Thank you!

steps to reproduce:
1. open "Vibe Check" screen, which has a single form with a few fields
2. tap into the top box, field "share_text"
3. see that the defined helper text is hard-coded into the box as teh input already (this only happens on Android, not iOS)

as compared to tapping into the other field, private_notes, which has the helper text in the background and is replaced when you type

screenshots below, couldn't do a video but hopefully this demonstrates. you can tell the top field helper text is darker than below..

possible reasons:
1. length of helper text is longer than some threshold?
2. certain characters used in helper text
3. the share_text field is "[component:input-textarea:required]" while the private_text field is "[component:input-textarea]" so maybe the required field makes a difference?
