I'm using the [layer] tag to keep the "type your message in here" frame in place but the latest incoming data hides under it.

Yes use a tab menu and Shrink your container where the messages are and add a container under the messages at the same height then the tab menu... This should work
Thanks! I added an empty container the same height as the "type message" layer but just above it and I can see the most recent message now.
I couldn't do the tab menu method because I have a [nomenu] tag on this page.
