Remote action closes modal - Bravo Vision

Archived from the Bravo community forum (2021–2026). Some answers may refer to older versions of Bravo.

I am trying to use the ‘like’ button functionality with [action:remote] in two different places which should call the API whilst remaining on the current modal screen right? Every time I tap the icon it makes the API call fine but shuts my modal. This is happening consistently on Android and iOS Bravo Vision Apps. Any help is much appreciated.

Hey Chris, this is the default behaviour for modals both on iOS and Android. As an alternative, instead of [page:modal] use [transition:move:up], which recreates a modal's behaviour and won't get closed after triggering a remote action.

Hi Diego, really? oh no! That's a big problem 😭 I thought that because you can do things like play audio in a modal (which i'm doing) it would be fine to also use remote actions in a modal without it closing. I've had to use modals for all of my sub-pages because i'm using a tab menu which gets really confusing for the user if using standard pages when you're switching between sections.

I may have missed it, but it might be worth adding that information to the documentation that you cannot use remote actions within a modal page.

...thank you so much Chris for taking the time to share your questions and Diego for so kindly sharing your response!! ...it was so lovely to come across your post as i too have been working with a modal page and having the exact same actions. ....i am using it the a music player for my app and creating buttons for calling next and previous songs with remote actions and it closes as well. i remember a couple months back where i was on an older app version of bravo and it worked perfectly and then when i updated it started closing each time. ...i am looking in to seeing if there was some sort of code we could add into our pages to help...maybe to the remote action api or on response.
...for the arrow seek buttons i made... the only way i could get them to retrieve live without a refresh is by setting the action remote to load it's own page again by setting the 'on success' to 'load page' and linking it to page of the music player again.
...thank you again Chris and Diego for the opportunity to share our thoughts!! sending lots of wishes!!

Hi! Oh that's a really tricky one! Wow that sounds like some "out of the box" thinking to get around it. I've had to change my navigation to a top-bar container instead of tab-menu and then turned all my sub-screens back to regular pages to get around this modal remote action issue. I hope your app project is going well! 😁

I have been changing all my modal pages back to regular pages, but have noticed a frustrating glitch when doing this. When i remove the [page:modal] tag from my pages in figma and refresh it in bravo, it loses all/most of the api data connections on that page, so I have to go and reconnect everything. I'm guessing it shouldn't do this? Or there something incredibly complex in the background that can't be helped? Just raising a flag incase you didn't know.
